Andruw Jones reaches deal to stay with Yankees

Andruw Jones and the Yankees have reached an agreement on a $2 million deal plus incentives for 2012, pending a physical.

Jones had a nice year with the Yankees in 2011, and both sides were thrilled with how things went, both on the field and in the clubhouse. Jones, who was believed to have received some interest from the Red Sox and Orioles, among others, clearly wanted to remain a Yankee. He also has transitioned nicely to a part-time role after beginning his career as a star.

Jones hit .246 with 13 home runs and 47 RBI with New York in 2011.

I think 2M is a great deal for Jones. Now Cashman needs to give the "Prince of NY" a blank check to fill out to be the new DH/1B for the Yanks to be even better than they are at this point. Give Eric Chavez another contract too! That, I can live with!

This stunning announcement virtually guarantees that the Yanks will win the AL East. Sources in New York are saying the team is attempting to lure reliever Eric Plunk out of retirement to join Damaso Marte, Jaba "the hut" Chamberlain, Sergio Mendes, and Teddy Bruski to fill the roles as set up men for Mariano.

It must be hard to get too excited about a reserve resigning. Yet Andruw Jones will likely become a key reserve for the Yankees. With Posada retiring the regular designated hitter will belong to Jones as well as some rotation starts in the OF. I like Andruw and he showed last year that he is not done. Are the Yankees old? Somewhat but not without speed, hitting, throwing and a bit of pitching as well. They seem to be committed to holding on until some of their top prospects are ready for the show.

Perhaps the hardest position to cover for the Yankees is to reproduce the level of backup third base produced by Eric Chavez who started 40 games for A-Rod. Chavez hit timely RBI's and fielded well (.993). There are likely to be one or two from the farms ready to get some of this time.

You obviously didn't watch him play last year, dope. The guy hit a lot of dingers in part-time work, won a bunch of games for the yankees. Every yankees fan I know wanted him back, along with Freddy Garcia. Write about things you know about -- that way, you don't have to look so uninformed. Happy New Year.

Andruw Jones reaches deal to stay with Yankees

The only thing more disturbing than Andruw Jones getting paid to play baseball since 2007 - he's just been simply horrible - is that no one will call the man out for steriod use previously in (the more successful portion of) his career. Lastly, listing him at 230lbs is about the funniest thing in world and only possible if he was 5-6.
